Below is an extract from the local Newspaper
for Thursday, November 21st 1968. This relates to what was proposed at
that time, not what finally occurred.
NEW 200-CARAVAN PLAN FOR HOLTON
PARK
Although Mr. D.C.
Johnson (Chairman) wanted an objection to be sent in, Holton Parish
Council decided at its meeting last week to reserve its comments on a new
proposal for 200 caravans on Holton Park until more details plans were
available.
The application came be-
fore the council when the
Area Planning Officer wrote
saying that Kintchat Develop-
ments Ltd., were seeking out-
line planning consent for de-
veloping the park for 200 holi-
day caravans.
Any
observations the council wished
to make would be taken into con-
sideration by the East Suffolk County
Planning Committee when the appli-
cation was dealt with.
Dance
Hall
The chairman said that according
to the public notice in the Press
there would also be a dance hall and
a swimming pool on the site.
"At this stage I feel there is very
little we can discuss," said Mr. H.
Draper. The whole site was to be
used, and the 200 caravans were with-
in the limit given by the Ministry.
He had objected personally. One
of the points was the dance hall,
which might be licensed. With the
only entrance to the caravan site 20
yards or so from his house it could
become very noisy on Saturday nights,
which would destroy the quiet coun-
tryside area he had lived in for the
past ten years. He was not against
young people enjoying themselves
in any way.

Already
dangerous
The top corner where the access
and exit was already very; danger-
ous because vehicles swung round
the corner, and it was surprising that
there had not been an accident there.
The development on the site would
put a lot more traffic on that road,
and if improvements were not made
there would be real trouble.
There would be increased highway
hazards on the corner and he did
not want to be kept awake late on
Saturday night by noise almost out-
side his door,
"Let us reserve our comments until
we have received the detailed plan,"
suggested Mr. W. Woodard.
The chairman said that as a coun-
cil they did object to a 500-caravan
site. He felt that if the 200 were
allowed the developer could go on
increasing the number so that it
might be 500 in five years.
"Who ar we to decide? We are
dealing with 200 caravans only,"
commented Mr. Woodaard.
'The
beginning'
"If 200 are allowed it will be the
beginning of getting the park cov-
ered with caravans," declared the
chairman.

Mr. A.C. Woodward said he did
not think there was anything the
council could do about it. Objections
had to be in by the next day, and
they could not do this in time. Every
argument had already been put up
at the inquiry in January.
The chairman said he would like
to propose sending a letter to the
Planning Officer saying the council
objected to the proposed develop-
ment.
Mr. Draper said he had every faith
in the County Planning Officer, Mr.
Smith, that there would not be more
than 200 caravans on the site.
'Fight all the way'
Mr. Woodward said the County
Planning Officer had said at the pub-
lic inquiry that he was agreeable
to 300 caravans on the
site as
against 500. Therefore he might later
agree to another 100 being added
to the 200.
"I think this has got to be fought
all the way," declared the chairman.
"Once there is even 50 on the site
it can be added to."
The council decided to inform the
County Planning Officer they reserved
their comments until they had re-
ceived the detailed plan.
